Buying CBD oil in Canada

CBD oil is cannabidiol extract blended with a carrier oil and taken under the tongue. Our daytime oil is a CBD isolate, which means 99%+ pure CBD and no THC, so it will not get you high. The melatonin oil adds about 3 mg of melatonin per dropper for the evening. The Delta-8 oil is different: it contains Delta-8 THC, which is psychoactive. The pet oil is a gentler strength made for dogs and cats.

Which strength of CBD oil should I buy?

A 1000 mg bottle gives about 33 mg of CBD per full dropper, a 2000 mg bottle about 67 mg. Most people start with half a dropper of the 1000 mg and hold it for three days. The 2000 mg bottle suits people who already know their amount: it lasts twice as long and costs less per milligram. How many mg of CBD per drop?

Worked out from the label at about 20 drops per ml. Droppers vary, so treat the per-drop figures as a guide. The lab measured 1,081 mg and 2,044 mg in the current 1000 mg and 2000 mg isolate bottles, a little over the label.

Isolate, broad spectrum or full spectrum?

CBD isolate is CBD with everything else removed: no THC, no other cannabinoids and very little plant taste. Broad-spectrum extract keeps other cannabinoids but has the THC taken out. Full-spectrum extract keeps more of the plant, THC included. Our THC-free oils are all isolate. Our Delta-8 oil is Delta-8 THC in MCT oil with no CBD; it is the only one of our oils that is psychoactive. We do not sell a broad-spectrum oil.

What to check before you buy CBD oil

• The CBD content in mg, per bottle and per ml, not just “hemp extract”.
• A lab report for the strength or batch, showing the measured CBD and the THC result.
• Whether it is isolate (no THC) or full spectrum (contains THC).
• The carrier oil and the flavour.
• That it is CBD oil at all: hemp seed oil is pressed from the seeds and contains little or no CBD.

How to take CBD oil

Shake the bottle, fill the dropper to your amount, and place the oil under your tongue. Hold it there for about 60 seconds, then swallow. Taken this way it usually starts within 15 to 45 minutes and lasts several hours. You can also mix it into food or a drink; it then works more like a gummy, slower to start. Take it at the same time each day, and change the amount only after a few days.

Carrier oil and flavours

Our CBD oils use MCT oil, a light, coconut-derived carrier that absorbs well under the tongue. The isolate and melatonin oils come unflavoured or with natural peppermint, the Delta-8 oil in watermelon, and the pet oil in bacon.

Lab tested CBD oil

Our oils are tested by independent labs for cannabinoid content and THC; the THC-free isolate is tested by an ISO 17025 accredited lab. The published certificates of analysis are on our lab results page, listed by product and strength. Reports for the melatonin oil are being added.
